April is Occupational Therapy Month!

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is not specifically related to job function or ergonomics- although OT’s may certainly specialize in those areas.

Occupational therapy is the use of activities that are meaningful to a person to provide healing. OT’s use these activities to help people recover from injuries, get better from sickness or disease, improve their mental health and coping skills and to help children learn and grow. The focus on OT is using meaningful activities.

OT’s work with people of all ages from infants to elderly people. They work in many settings from hospitals, mental health clinics, schools, pediatric health clinics and community settings.

If someone of any age has a problem doing something that is meaningful and important to them (play with peers, going to school, getting dressed or driving a car) they may seek occupational therapy services.
